Interview with Frank Breyer, Army veteran (922nd Field Artillery), concerning his experiences in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. His volunteering for the draft, 1943; assignment to Burma, 1944; attachment to Merrill's Marauders (5307th Composite Unit [Provisional]); combat around Myitkyina, Burma, 1944; medical evacuation to Ledo; assignment to the Mars Task Force (5332nd Brigade [Provisional]), October, 1944; combat around Bhamo, Burma; transfer to the 612th Artillery; opening of the Burma Road; transfer to Kunming, China, for artillery training, March, 1945; teaching artillery tactics to Chinese troops with the Chinese Combat and Training Command; resumption of fighting between Chinese Nationalist and Communist forces, 1945.

William John Alexadner was born of Scottish parents in Hamilton, Canada West, in 1855. He was educated in Hamilton and at the University of Toronto where he won a scholarship which enabled him to study English at the University of Wales College in Charlottetown for two years. He obtained a PhD in Greek And Philology at the newly constituted Johns Hopkins Unviersity in 1833, and spent a further year studying modern languages in Heidelberg.
